Sifu Pete Hornby / Chen De Hong

Lau Gar Kuen

Pete is a 7th Degree martial artist having trained for over 46 years in the Southern Shaolin Kung Fu system of Lau Gar Kuen, as taught by the lineage holder, Grandmaster Jeremy Yau. As a Guardian of the style since 2000, his teaching ensures the style’s philosophies and techniques are shared, valued and preserved.

Pete was the first non-Chinese person to be awarded the 6th Duan Wei by the Chinese Wushu Association.

 

Taiji

Over the past 36 years, Pete has amassed a wealth of experience in Taiji.  Studying with world-leading practitioners, his journey began with the Chen Man-Ching style taught by Dr Chrissie Coburn-Krzowska and the Taiji 37 with Dr. Shen Hongxun, followed by a long period exploring Yang.  Pete’s passion for the Chen style was ignited in Foshan, China where he trained with Master Lau.  Since 2006, he has studied with Master Liming Yue at the Tai Chi Centre, Manchester, going on to become a Disciple of Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei and Master Liming Yue. Pete is level 9 Instructor, an assessor on the Technical Committee and Executive Member of the Chen Zhenglei Taijiquan Federation (CZLF) where he leads on the international promotion of Taiji and Health Qigong through the Federation’s on-line teaching platform.

 

Qigong

Training as a martial artist, Pete explored internal energy and qigong as part of the Lau Gar system and went on to study the Chinese Health Qigong series of exercises. Now an instructor with British Health Qigong Association, led by Master Faye Yip, Pete has studied under many great Professors and Masters in the UK and China. In 2017 he achieved his 4th Duan Wei from the International Health Qigong Federation.

In 2018, he played a leading role in organising and judging the 3rd European Health Qigong Games in London, which attracted more than 500 competitors from over 40 countries.

 

ITQF

Drawing on his extensive experience in business and strategic planning gained in the public and private sector, Pete is helping the ITQF to establish robust planning and governance.  Focused on top quality teaching, inclusivity and innovation, through the Federation Pete aims to increase awareness of the health and wellbeing benefits of Taiji and Qigong around the globe.
